Copier tabs are blank, unprinted index divider tabs. Most high-speed office equipment is able to run copier tabs.
Copy tabs allow you to create custom printed tabs with print on-demand technology. Most equipment allows for printing index tabs and document pages simultaneously. You save time and money by producing a finished and collated document.
Not sure whether your copier or printer will run copier tabs? See our DocuCopy Tab Capable Equipment List.
A copier or printer that can be programmed to print on copier tabs is considered tab-capable. Many will print document pages at the same time, delivering a complete document ready for binding.

- Single Reverse (SRC) – index tabs come in the reverse order of how they appear in the finished document
- Single Straight (SSC) – tab dividers are packaged in the order they appear in the finished document
- Double Reverse (DRC) – copy tabs are collated in reverse order two at a time in each position
- Uncollated (single position) – Can be used in any equipment; packaged and sold as single position within a tab bank
DocuCopy copier tabs are made with high-quality xerographic grade 90# and 110# index stock. These papers are specially manufactured for digital printing and copying.
Die cut finishing creates smooth, dust-free edges to protect your equipment from paper fibers.
Accurate collation of DocuCopy copier tabs insures trouble-free performance.
Packaging is also designed to keep moisture and humidity from warping the paper and protect the index tabs.
Find the perfect copier tab for your document. Choose from many combinations of paper weights, tab cuts, Trilar colors, collating sequences, and punching styles for the right index tab selection.
Trilar film is exclusive to DocuCopy. It is a toner-receptive lamination covering the index tab. Text is printed directly on the lamination and won’t rub or scratch off.
Trilar is available in the following colors.
Trilar is DocuCopy’s original lamination film. It performs best on traditional digital printers and copiers. Gen2 Trilar is the newest addition to the Trilar family. It is designed to perform on both traditional digital equipment and the newest digital equipment technology.
For test samples of Trilar and Gen2 Trilar, contact your DocuCopy distributor.
Toner should adhere perfectly to Trilar laminated tabs without scratching or rubbing off.
Print should not wear off under normal use. If you are experiencing adhesion issues, make sure your equipment is set up for copier tabs.
For more details, contact your equipment service rep or DocuCopy distributor.
Miscollation is often caused by removing a partial bank of copy tabs from the box.
Avoid collation errors by carefully removing blank index dividers from the box. Load the feed tray with collation sequence in mind. Remember to remove any partial banks from the printer tray after a run.
Index tab collation errors are very rare with DocuCopy copier tabs due to manufacturing processes.
If there is a collation error, contact your DocuCopy distributor to correct the issue.
Desktop printers are typically restricted to paper up to 8 1/2″ wide. With the tab extension, most index tab sheets are 9″ wide. DocuCopy copier tabs are not manufactured to run on inkjet equipment.
Some equipment can be programmed to print copy tabs on both sides. Two-sided printing (duplexing) is not recommended otherwise.
Check with your equipment manufacturer to see if your equipment is capable of duplexing.
Tab titles should be positioned along the right side of the page. Space text according to the size of the tab cut. Remember the 1/2″ shoulder for the top and bottom of the sheet.
To calculate:
Take the length of the sheet and subtract the shoulders, then divide by the cut.
Example: for an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of 1/5 cut tabs with the typical 1/2″ shoulders: 11″ – 1/2″ – 1/2″ = 10″/5 = 2″ tab
